For me, paintings come up out of the canvas – hard to describe. And the process is unique for each work.
I start with a photo I’ve taken, although the finished work rarely resemble that composition, except maybe in color, as color is what drives my creativity.
A blank canvas is always an invitation to dance!
I am very fortunate to have large windows that allow natural light and use a full spectrum daylight lamp that helps people with SADD when it’s cloudy.
I lay down the backgrounds in no particularly order: top to bottom, from the center, positions on the canvas and shapes – the approach seems to be always different. It’s mostly about a feeling of movement, balance and just sitting with it.
Then the fun begins! Again, not always the same. Sometimes I start from the top, or the center, or one area over another.
Then, I let it sit a bit. I don’t believe I have ever gone back to make changes once it has come off the easel. The piece get hung in my dining room so I can enjoy it first ; )
Then they are exhibited, shown on the website, and go into your homes with a spirit that I hope follows them!
